Dubrovnik is beautiful historic city on the Adriatic Sea coast in the extreme south of Croatia. Croatia is destroyed by the war. Following the end of the war, the damage caused by shelling of the Old Town was repaired. Adhering to UNESCO guidelines, repairs were performed in the original style. Few of Dubrovnik's Renaissance buildings survived the earthquake of 1667 but fortunately enough remain to give an idea of the city's architectural heritage. One the most important monument is Sponza Palace which dates from the 16th century and is currently used to house the National Archives.
Dubrovnik's most beloved church is St Blaise's church, built in the 18th century in honor of Dubrovnik's patron saint. Dubrovnik's baroque Cathedral was built in the 18th century and houses an impressive Treasury with relics of Saint Blaise.
However the most important monument of Dubrovnik is its walls that run 2km around the city. The system of turrets and towers were intended to protect the vulnerable city but now make one of the most picturesque sights in the Adriatic.
